<itunes:summary>Push music are the frontrunners in London and the South East’s underground dance music scene. From rocking the artisan bars of Shoreditch and Hoxton to main room club sets at Ministry of Sound, Audio Brighton and Camden’s Barfly, no genre is safe as Push Music bend the boundaries of Electro and Indie, joining the dots along the way with some forgotten classics, random curve balls and a taste for the 80’s.

Scensters, hipsters, kool kids and geeks unite as Push Music deliver Indie and Electro for the masses.</itunes:summary>

DATABASE, one of the biggest electronic names in Brazil are releasing their first EP “New Disco EP”on Kitsuné on September 19th.

Lucio Morais and Yuri Chix, started music in 2005, when gathering people together to the dancefloor of São Paulo’s legendary, now-extinct club, “AmpGalaxy”! This new local fame was the driving force behind the idea to create something new — a fresh live dance act with original beats – called DATABASE.

Their popularity has since then crossed the borders and has given them the opportunity to remix Fatboy Slim amongst others, play in some of the biggest Brazilian festivals along with Kanye West, MGMT… and even to do a US tour with French Horn Rebellion!

‘New Disco’ is their first self EP in which they express all their style and attitude! Composed of three original tracks, it pays great tribute to their sense of the beat and mixes damn well electro, techno with old school disco sounds and vocals.

From his early classic Nervous releases, to defining the four to the four blueprint for UK garage. Todd Edwards has come full circle, cruising through the late noughties garage backlash and continuing to influence the new wave of electronic music producers. From remixing everyone from Björk to Justice, the Todd Edwards sound seems to jump genres and even generations as the new wave of electronic labels have called upon his signature sound.

Push Music caught up with the man himself to talk two decades of cutting and pasting…

Musically, how are you feeling in 2011?

I feel excited going into the second half of 2011. It has been an interesting year both personally and musically. I’ve been branching out with different rhythm styles, and also going back to my older roots as well. The samples I choose have an impact on the tracks I make, and the responses change based on the track styles. It’s fascinating and helpful to see what the responses are.

Social media. Blogs and Souncloud seems like you embraced the digital age early on. How have things progressed or maybe regressed since you started making music?

Soundcloud is an incredible source to find new talent, and great music that you might not have come across on any other internet site. Soundcloud definitely established a new presence for my work and allows others to know my current musical activity. It’s frustrating when you’re trying to track down older remixes or original productions by an artist that are no longer being sold. I wanted to make it easy for anyone that wants it to find my work that they couldn’t get anywhere else.

There are productions that we all create for the enjoyment of it but would not be able to sell legally. Soundcloud is a central location where I can give away these tracks for free and you know how much people love FREE. ? I’m very thankful for the different blogs that have promoted my work. The great thing about blogs is that they are a labor of love by people that want to share music. It seems there are a lot less politics and more passion for the art.

Let’s talk ‘Roll with it’, why the huge, huge delay (10 years) and the subsequent release via Ministry of Sound’s the Sound of UK garage? Don’t get us wrong we’re happy it’s out, hats off to all involved and it’s on repeat but where’s the vinyl, where’s the remixes?

Well, remixes will come. The delayed release was due to finding an agreement that everyone involved could get behind. Then time just went by, and you know how easy it is to get sidetracked by other paths in life. This was the time it was meant to come out, and it sounds just as fresh 10 years later. Quality Garage/House doesn’t usually sound dated. I still play in my set music from the early 90’s that inspired me and you wouldn’t suspect that they were old if you didn’t know the tracks. If all goes well, there will be future Fully Loaded releases.

You seemed to have branched out as a producer over the last couple of years experimenting with some new drums signatures and styles after years of solid 4×4 grooves, you always said you’d never make a 2-step track so why the switch?

I found the Future Garage genre very inspiring and fresh to me. However it really started with my remix for for Spankrock’s “What It Look Like.” I just didn’t hear a 4×4 remix for this song, and I didn’t want to force it. I found a clap loop sample, and I knew this was the place to start. It came together quickly, and the finished product had a very good response. After 17 years of making 4×4, I wanted to explore some new paths.

Your London? We know you’re a regular. What are the best places to visit buy music and socialise if you’re Todd Edwards in London town?

Honestly, for as many times as I have been to London there is very little exploration. I am usually traveling from gig to gig and then back home. I probably should take a few extra days to relax, but I am always in the mindset that I am here for the business of music and to see the fans. I can take a holiday at some other point in time.

What’s your current top five for the dance floor?

Since I’m not in London every week, I usually play a full Todd set. Best reactions come from “No Place Like London”, “Love Inside”, VV Brown’s “Shark In The Water” (Todd dub), “As I Am”, and “Shut The Door” I really enjoy playing new material that no one has heard yet. I always try to have new tracks ready to go when I have a gig. Of all the places I’ve been, my UK family are the most receptive to hearing new material for the first time.

What’s your current top three for the stereo?

I have been in a nostalgic mood lately, and have been downloading 70’s and 80’s pop.

What’s been the best gig of 2011 so far?

Unfortunately due to my injury I had to cancel some gigs (Todd suffered a serious Neck injury) and it prevented me from planning early summer gigs. Fabric is always a favorite, and playing IceeHot in San Francisco was VERY memorable because I got to do a gig with the LEGENDARY producer MK! He is such a nice guy, and his brother is, too. Doing a gig with MK, being one of my greatest musical inspirations was a fulfilled dream. To add to that, everywhere I am invited, I usually become close with the people throwing the party, and that is most certainly true of Icee Hot. I’ve met a lot of positive people through music, and now have a lot of new friends.

Studio toys – What are your studio essentials? Anything tips for quick sampling and cutting and pasting?

I am still a hardcore Akai S6000 sampler user. Digital Performer is still my sequencing software, and the Vintage, Mo Phatt, Motif, XLEAD, Microkorg, Juno 106, and Roland JP8000 are always in use. Abelton has been added to this. It is a great program for production but it is still not second nature to me yet.
Sampling tip- When you are looking for a quality vocal to sample, look for a genre of music that doesn’t have a lot of drums in it or possibly any drums at all. The less music that is in the sample, the easier it is to blend in the track. I look for syllables when I am sampling vocals to be used as instruments. Harder sounding syllables ending with “er” or “ar” make for good rhythmical patterns (ex. Nev-er, Lov-er)

Todd’s sound:

And finally, some Todd Edwards music news please? New signings, remixes, forthcoming releases etc?

For all who don’t know, I am no longer with i! Records. I haven’t been for almost four years. I have for openers 14 new tracks that I will release myself. Thanks to the amazing people at Scion A/V and my manager Alexis Rivera I have been able to enjoyably move forward with these projects . You can keep up to date with my future releases and tour dates by going to my official site nutrendmusic.com. I have a lot of musical ideas and a strong conviction to keep going. Music for a long time was a love hate relationship. After a period of growth and reflection, there is only love for the music and for God who inspires it.

Us Brits are well known for our pioneering spirit, groundbreaking music, and cultural heritage. Subculture are bringing you our next generation of trailblazers, shot beautifully in intimate surroundings. Take these 2 bands for example, captured right at the pivotal point in their careers, these clips are a snapshot of the best of new British talent that’s blowing up this summer.

Swimming ‘Mining For Diamonds’ Big tense buildups, skewed melodies and moments of heavy electronics underpin their sound.

Hyetal ‘Phoenix’ One of the UK’s most inspired producers of the moment. The debut album took the UK bass scene in new directions, and critical acclaim ensued…

Bands In Transit with Ford is incredibly excited to announce a live streamed acoustic performance by Bombay Bicycle Club, taking place next Tuesday, August 9th, at 1:30pm via www.bandsintransit.com

The Bands In Transit van will be rolling into a secret location where Bombay Bicycle Club will be performing acoustic versions of tracks from their brand new third album ‘A Different Kind of Fix’. In a little over three years Bombay Bicycle Club have released three LPs – an extraordinary and increasingly rare feat in the 21st century music industry. From the teenage indie kicks of their debut ‘I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose’; to the sparse, timeless folk of last summer’s top ten album, ‘Flaws’ (nominated for an Ivor Novello Award); the quartet open a new and beguiling chapter with, ‘A Different Kind of Fix’, one that cements their place at the very forefront of British bands in 2011.

To view the performance, visit www.bandsintransit.com

“A Different Kind of Fix” will be released through Island Records on 29th August. The album’s first single ‘Shuffle’ is currently available on iTunes and has a killer Balearic remix from Leo Zero

After the success of his last album ‘Record Collection’ in late 2010, Mark Ronson is back with ‘Record Collection 2012′.

Kitsune on Record collection 2012:

“The least we can say is that Mark Ronson is some kind of a music genius. He neither anticipated any of his successes, nor does he believe they are true now. After making three successful albums, Here Comes the Fuzz, Version and Record Collection , and producing three of the biggest stars in the world, Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Adele, Mark Ronson is now releasing Record Collection 2012 his new single on Kitsune!

Featuring Pharrell Williams, MNDR, Wiley and Wretch 32, this new version of Record Collection brings more style and energy to the original version with its stirring tune and lyrics! The single is backed by amazing remixes by some of the hottest acts around, namely CSS, LOGO, Moonlight Matters, Plastic Plates, DATABASE and Perseus and which, according to Ronson himself, are all certified f***in bangers ! ”

This is going to fly, Push Music have had a sneaky listen to the remix package and they range from happy pop electro fare (CSS) Dark electronica (Logo) dance floor disco (Moonlight Matters) right through to an electro club rocker (Database)

Record collection 2012 is out on Kitsuné September 5th.
