Podcast 17

As summer gives London a week-long blast of October Sunshine here’s Podcast 17; a reflection of how we get down in the hot city. Disco, Electro, Techno and 2 Step. Yeah, it shouldn’t work but it does. New music from Justice and the Twelve’s, Joe Goddard’s future classic ‘Gabrielle’ and Dan ‘Caribou’ Snaith’s ‘Ye Ye’ fit in between disco re-edits, French electro and some garage from the future (apparently). Hit play and it all makes sense.

Shells – Arctic / Spiders

Building from haze of reversed synthesizers and glacial guitar sounds, ‘Arctic’ brings in angelic, errant signals, understated basslines and seductive vocal samples to become a driving melodic force. Its counterpart, ‘Spiders’, then follows where his ‘Pastels’ EP led off. A maze of syncopated Tenori-on noise litter the driving kicks, as Rafique morphs his soundscapes ala Dan Snaith around the intricate weave of synth noise.

Shells – Arctic / Spiders by Two Tap Digital

Shells will be performing live this Saturday at East London’s Lati Ri as part of the Downstairs Music night.

Database Disco EP

DATABASE, one of the biggest electronic names in Brazil are releasing their first EP “New Disco EP”on Kitsuné on September 19th.

Lucio Morais and Yuri Chix, started music in 2005, when gathering people together to the dancefloor of São Paulo’s legendary, now-extinct club, “AmpGalaxy”! This new local fame was the driving force behind the idea to create something new — a fresh live dance act with original beats – called DATABASE.

Their popularity has since then crossed the borders and has given them the opportunity to remix Fatboy Slim amongst others, play in some of the biggest Brazilian festivals along with Kanye West, MGMT… and even to do a US tour with French Horn Rebellion!

‘New Disco’ is their first self EP in which they express all their style and attitude! Composed of three original tracks, it pays great tribute to their sense of the beat and mixes damn well electro, techno with old school disco sounds and vocals.

Todd Edwards Interview

From his early classic Nervous releases, to defining the four to the four blueprint for UK garage. Todd Edwards has come full circle, cruising through the late noughties garage backlash and continuing to influence the new wave of electronic music producers. From remixing everyone from Björk to Justice, the Todd Edwards sound seems to jump genres and even generations as the new wave of electronic labels have called upon his signature sound.

Push Music caught up with the man himself to talk two decades of cutting and pasting…

Musically, how are you feeling in 2011?

I feel excited going into the second half of 2011. It has been an interesting year both personally and musically. I’ve been branching out with different rhythm styles, and also going back to my older roots as well. The samples I choose have an impact on the tracks I make, and the responses change based on the track styles. It’s fascinating and helpful to see what the responses are.

Social media. Blogs and Souncloud seems like you embraced the digital age early on. How have things progressed or maybe regressed since you started making music?
